A Roots Radics Dub tune vocal ID ?

Postby JAHstice » Mon Sep 12, 2005 7:06 pm

Greetz,

please help me to ID what is the vocal part of the Strictly Rodigan Style tune from the " The Roots Radics Meet Mighty Revolutionaires - Outernational Riddim" LP .

It's a killer dub, yet i cannot recognize the vocals, there are lyrics in the begining, something like " Rastaman sit up on the congregation , sipping up chalice " - any idea who it might be ?

Big up,

JAHstice.

Well, I did state the name of the tune (maybe not clearly enough) - its called "Strictly Rodigan Style" , track number 2.

Details of the LP are here : http://www.roots-archives.com/release/2300

Old thread I know but I asked the exact same question with posted lyrics I don't know how long ago and I THINK I got an answer but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to work the search function properly everytime. It is Peter Broggs and I'd love to have my memory refreshed if anyone knows now??

It never was released. I spoke to a guy who was in the studio when it was recorded and he said it was recorded in the same session as the other Broggs tune from the set but this one was never released. If I recall correctly the title was 10.000 Careless Ethiopians.

I simply love that dub LP and always considered it a Yabby You release more than anything since a majority of the rhythms come from his catalogue. I used to have three copies of the album but now I'm down to two.

Not doubting your information Kalcidis but I could have sworn I was provided a link to youtube or something where I heard the actual song which suggest there was some kind of release. Haven't heard it in years but were these majority Yabby You rhythms?? I'm mostly rubbish at matching up rhythms to producers save for the obvious ones but didn't recognize any usual suspects of Yabby rhythms.

Interesting to note that the album came out on FORM (https://www.discogs.com/label/72990-FORM ), an Irish subsidiary of Burning Sounds. Given that a fair amount of Burning Sounds material has been reissued recently, there's always a chance of this reappearing.

"The other Broggs tune" Kalcidis refers to is Jah Golden Throne, probably his best-known record: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es_OReuT9Sg .

Novice: I hope you're right. I unfortunately do not think there is a full vocal out there. Yes. Out of the ten tracks six are Yabby You productions (Patrick Andy, Wayne Wade, Gladiators Blessed Are The Meek etc). Not his most classic productions but rather the late 70's stuff he did. Most of them were released on Grove Music 12" or Vivian Jackson 7" if I recall correctly.

drwatts53: Yes! I just couldn't remember title and had zero motivation to open up my dub database and check. :D My laziness is reaching new levels.
